More Than 30 Percent of The World’s Food Supply Is Wasted Every Year

We waste nearly half of our food daily without knowing it. Well, you are not alone at this. According to a report by World Bank, nearly 1/3 of the total food in the world is wasted every year.

World Bank senior economist Jose Cuesta wrote:

“We know richer countries waste more on a per capita basis, but also that poor consumers waste food.”

Some statistics from the report are as follows:

· Total food wasted per year is 11 billion metric tons globally.

· Almost 25% of global food is wasted in South and Southeast Asia (where 90% is lost in production, storage and transport).

· In North America and Oceania, almost 61% of food is wasted by consumers.

· Latin America wastes about 15% of its annual production.

Jose Cuesta also said:

“Changing mindsets will be already a huge contribution in places where that is related to about a third of all the food.”

This wastage of food not only affects the economy but have other consequences like more fuel, pesticides, fertilizers and chemical consumption.

Scientists Predict Lack Of Honey Bees Will Lead To A Food Crisis

Pollination in plants is carried out mostly via honey bees. But due to deforestation in this rapidly growing world is causing a crisis for lives of honey bees. Agricultural department of US is also working 24/7 to take suitable steps to minimize the threat to these honey bees as the loss of millions of bees has been found in the country side.

Weather changes is a big cause of die offs, especially in winters. Also the pesticides are contributing to this enormous loss. Some scientists are in the view that this loss could be a threat to US food supply in the future.

All the countries in the World are facing this problem, as it is recently published in a journal that more than half of the countries in Europe lack bees for pollination where United Kingdom is on top of the list.

Simon Potts says in an interview:

“We face a catastrophe in future years unless we act now, Wild pollinators need greater protection. They are the unsung heroes of the countryside, providing a critical link in the food chain for humans and doing work for free that would otherwise cost British farmers £1.8b to replace.
We need a proper strategy across Europe to conserve wild bees and pollinators through habitat protection, agricultural policy and farming methods, or we risk big financial losses to the farming sector and a potential food security crisis.”

The study showed that around 7.0 billion honey bees have been lost yet. Steps have been taken to protect bees by introducing a moratorium on neonicotinoid pesticides, but not enough is being done yet.

How Vitamin Combinations are helpful for health boost.

Farmer Says GM Feed Causes Pigs Diarrhea, Deformations, and Loss of Appetite

If you want to know what will happen to animals gastrointestinal by feeding them livestock genetically modified crops. A Danish farmer turned anti-GMO activist, Ib Borup Pedersen. He watched pigs how they got diarrhea after eating genetically modified feed.

Farmer Pederson says, “It shocks me that the industry does not take the evidence of Roundup’s and glyphosate’s harmful effects more seriously than it does.” The farmer only feeds his pigs with non-GM feed, and believes all genetically modified food should be banned.

Soy is normally used crops in livestock feed which is sprayed with glyphosate. Due to the toxic chemicals used GM soy should not be considered as food.

Judy Carman, MPH, PhD Flinders University says:

“The pesticide ‘Roundup’ works by inhibiting an enzyme that is necessary for the plant to synthesise certain aromatic amino acids, killing the plant. The targeted enzyme is called

killing the plant. The targeted enzyme is called phosphate synthetase, or EPSPS. The genetic modification in Roundup Ready soybeans involves incorporating a bacterial version of this enzyme, (from Agrobacterium species, strain CP4) into the soybean plant, giving the soybean protection from Roundup.

Because of the way that this gene was incorporated into soybeans, several other genes are also present. They are: the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter, the EPSPS chloroplast transit protein (CTP) sequence from petunias and the 3′ untranslated region of the nopaline synthetase gene (NOS3′). The ANZFA document completely omits discussion of the first and last of these genes and their proteins.

For the petunia CTP, the applicant document states: ‘…it is generally accepted that the chloroplast transit peptides are rapidly degraded after cleavage in vivo by cellular proteases.’ That is, results from other general experiments are relied-upon and no evidence is provided that they have measured this to be the case in Roundup Ready soybeans.”

The Dutch farmer finds out that pigs eating GMO feed get gastrointestinal, deformed pigs, reproductive problems, and piglet diarrhea. Humans could get autism, chronic diseases and gut disorder.

By changing pig’s feed to non-GMO they got liter sizes grow 1.8%, higher milk yields, lower incidence of ulcers and deformed piglets. When he run out of his food he had to buy GM feed for his pigs and discovered that all his pigs got sick. Pederson blames the chemical industry.

“We’ve never been told the truth about the dark side of the chemical agents. We only heard about the production advantages,” he said. Pederson and other farmers they got lied to, therefore if they boycott the use of GM feed, they could put biotech giants out of business for good.
