Fingernails show your diet. Want to know how?

- Slow growing, thin and easily breakable nails are due to low stomach acid, unhealthy diet and mal-functioning of small intestine.

- White patches on nails are because of zinc deficiency in our body. Ray Peat said: “White patches on finger-nails (mostly on right hand), shows the deficiency of zinc. Menstrual cycle decreases the zinc status in the body, so women have five or six spots across the nails that represent the six months’ growth. This does not mean that you have to take a zinc supplement it shows you are having some poor nutrient diet and your weak digestive system.

- Vertical lines on the nails show amino acid deficiency that is caused due to low protein diet or weak digestive juices in your stomach.

- Horizontal ridges indicate lack of a mineral micronutrient that is essential for normal nutrition or metabolism.

- Koilonychias or spooned nails are because of iron loss as a result of chronic bleeding.

- Yellow colour of nails shows unhealthy respiratory system.

- Notches on the edges of the nails are the symptom of chronic illness called Beau’s Lines (named by a French physician, Joseph HonorĂ© Simon Beau, who first described it in 1846)
